IWC signs distribution partnership with Danfoss
A new partnership between industrial cooling specialists Industrial Water Cooling (IWC) and advanced engineering manufacturer Danfoss was forged this month at the Electra Mining Africa (EMA) exhibition, held at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.
The two companies will work together to distribute Danfoss-made heat exchangers to IWC’s client base, with further expansion in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa.
“Importantly, we will be able to offer each client a bespoke solution for their heat exchanger requirements by merging our know-how and technologies” says IWC heat exchange and spares manager Deon Fawell.
The heat exchangers to be supplied by IWC will mostly be custom solutions, although plans are under way to ensure that IWC will also hold stock of a range of standard heat exchanger components.
“Once we have been to a client and assessed their size requirements, IWC will select a correlating frame, the required number of plates and gaskets, and start with assembly almost immediately,” enthuses Fawell.
This option, according to IWC, will not only decrease lead time for clients but also offer them the option to improve operational efficiencies.
Waste Potential
“With any process that generates heat, whether it be mechanical heat or a chemical heat, the prime choice would be to repurpose that heat,” says Danfoss technical sales engineer Brett Aarons.
Repurposed heat can be used to, for example, heat water for use in hot water applications across a client’s facility.
IWC will be granted access to the Danfoss design and installation programmes needed to accurately design and supply heat exchangers to clients.
“Should the design not be to a standard template, IWC will be able to send us the data sheets and Danfoss will manufacture to those specifications,” he adds, noting that Danfoss has support in Denmark and Dubai, with engineers who can assist with more difficult designs.
The heat exchangers supplied by Danfoss are manufactured by its subsidiary Sondex, which Danfoss acquired in 2016, with a notable installed base in South Africa already.
